If you’re headed on vacation to St. Thomas, USVI there is no doubt you will be checking out a few beaches during your stay. The beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands are some of the most beautiful in the world! St. Thomas alone has over 40 beaches around the island. While a good portion of the beaches is not accessible by land, there are more than a handful you don’t want to miss.
Certain beaches on St. Thomas will offer more amenities than others. SUP board, kayak, and snorkeling rentals are not available at all beaches and the same goes for food and drink. On the other hand, some of the beaches located in resorts will offer chairs and excursions along with rental items. Depending on the vibe you are looking for below is a roundup of the best, most accessible, beaches on St. Thomas.
1. Magens Bay Beach
Located on the north side of St. Thomas, this is one beach you don’t want to miss. Once rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world, Magens Bay Beach is the best all-around beach for just about all of your needs. Find chair and SUP board rentals, bathrooms, showers, a full bar, and a restaurant. There is even a small souvenir shop, located next to the restaurant.
Magens Bay Beach is an excellent location for walkers, runners, and swimmers. Did you know that the beach is half a mile long, in one direction? Not to mention spectacular snorkeling! This is the place to spot various fish and plenty of sea turtles. If you’re a bird person, the pelicans will have you stunned and entertained.
2. Lindquist Beach
Lindquist beach is located on the south side of St. Thomas in Smith Bay. This 21-acre protected park is one of the most pristine beaches in the USVI! Crystal turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and beautiful plush sand. If you’re looking for a quiet day on the beach, look no further.
This beach is one of the few that do not offer any concessions. There are great bathrooms and showers, but you will want to bring chairs and a cooler. Lindquist Beach has limited shade so a beach tent or umbrella will also be helpful. Truly a perfect beach for a picnic lunch.
3. Coki Beach
Coki Beach is known as the best shore snorkeling on St. Thomas. This east-side party beach offers amazing food and drinks, vendors, and just an all-around fun beach experience! This is one of the few beaches where one can feed fish or spot Moko Jumbies dancing in the sand. Coki Beach is also located right next door to Coral World Ocean Park.
When you visit Coki Beach you will find restrooms, hair braiders, chair rentals, plenty of taxis, and beach waiters serving food and drinks. Parking is limited at this beach, arrive early to beat the crowds. Vendors on Coki Beach sell anything from t-shirts to artwork, and more! There is also a dive shop that offers scuba diving tours on-site at, Coki Dive Center.
4. Sapphire Beach
Sapphire Beach is located on the east end of St. Thomas in Smith Bay. This beach is a perfect location to beat many cruise tourists and a perfect beach to sunbathe. Limited shade, be sure to pack a beach umbrella along for this stop. Windsurfing, snorkel gear, and chair rentals are available here along with bathrooms, and showers. The best part about this beach? Tons of free parking is available!
Sapphire beach also hosts a few food options. Grab a quick meal or drink at the Sapphire Beach Bar or Paradise Pie (Brand new pizza spot!). If you’re a morning person, grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich at The Beach Buzz. Sapphire Beach Bar is famous for hosting full moon parties every month!
5. Secret Harbor Beach
Even though a resort surrounds this cute little beach, this is one of the best on St. Thomas. Everything you could need is available here! Free, limited, parking, snorkel or chair rentals, and a perfectly situated restaurant and bar.
Secret Harbor Beach is a great beach to snorkel and it’s also one of the best beaches to swim at. With calmer and shallow waters this is a perfect beach to escape and relax on. Bathrooms and showers are available at this beach and we recommend bringing a beach tent or umbrella for shade.
6. Hull Bay Beach
Hull Bay, located on the north side of St. Thomas, is a well-known beach to residents. This Beach is where you will find fishermen bringing in the daily catch, prime snorkeling (on the right-hand side of the beach), and the cutest little beach bar.
Hull bay is shallow and rocky and you’ll find more true and natural sand here, therefore, we recommend using water socks, especially if your feet are sensitive. The Shack at The Hideaway is a perfect food truck to grab locally flavored craft cocktails and a bite of the freshest fish. If you’re looking to relax and get away from the crowds, Hull Bay Beach is just for you.
7. Brewers Beach
Brewers Bay Beach might be the most underrated beach on St. Thomas. While swimming in the ocean, you can watch planes land at Cyril E King Airport. A perfect beach to swim, snorkel, or catch the sun. There are large public restrooms with showers and you can usually catch a yummy food truck, or two, in the parking area.
Brewers Beach, located on the southwest side of St. Thomas, is a well know spot to see plenty of sea turtles and great snorkeling! Brewers Beach offers calm and shallow waters, making this a great spot for the entire family. A perfect beach picnic is bound to happen at Brewers Bay Beach. Make sure to check out the historical Sugar Factory ruins, built-in 1855.
